Flight is boarding means the airline has started accepting passengers for that flight at the departure gate. Boarding may proceed by group, row, cabin, status or another order, and the message does not mean every passenger should immediately form a single frightened organism around the scanner.

The FlyAndCry definition
The ceremonial transformation of a waiting area into a door-shaped traffic jam.
“Boarding” is a status update. Passengers hear it as a starting pistol. Within seconds, people in Group 8 are standing over Group 1, coats become territorial markers and every wheeled suitcase begins expressing a strong opinion about ankles.
Should you join the queue?
Check the group or instructions on your boarding pass and listen to the gate announcement. Airlines use different sequences, and a flight can be boarding while your own group is still enjoying the legal status of furniture.
Do not confuse “boarding” with final call. The first means the process has begun. The second means your name may soon become airport entertainment.
Why does everyone stand up?
Nobody knows. Seats are still assigned, the aircraft cannot leave through the gate without you and Group 7 remains Group 7 even when pressed firmly against Group 2. Yet the moment boarding begins, sitting becomes socially equivalent to preparing your own obituary.
The queue grows sideways because forward movement would be too simple. Passengers form secondary queues beside the real queue, then tertiary queues for people who only want to ask whether this is the queue. Every formation eventually merges into one anxious monument to assigned seating.
The five stages of boarding
First comes denial: “They have only called families.” Then anger at a suitcase touching your suitcase. Bargaining begins when Group 6 asks whether a premium credit card spiritually counts as Group 3. Depression arrives on the boarding bridge. Acceptance occurs after the overhead bin closes above somebody else’s coat.
By the time you reach your row, the cabin has become a narrow archaeological site. Every passenger is excavating a charger, rearranging a jacket or standing exactly where your body needs to exist.
At FlyAndCry
Our boarding groups are arranged by revenue, panic and elbow confidence. Group 1 boards first. Group 2 watches. Groups 3–9 are invited to create visual density near the gate. Group 10 is told the aircraft has reached emotional capacity.
Passengers who purchased Priority Boarding receive a dedicated longer queue, allowing them to wait ahead of people who are waiting more efficiently.
