A boarding group is a category used to call passengers onto an aircraft in stages. Priority varies by ticket, status and airline policy.

The FlyAndCry definition
A caste system printed in eight-point type.
Order before confinement
Group 1 boards first to occupy the overhead bins. Later groups board to study that decision from beneath their own luggage.
The group number creates social structure during the final minutes when everyone still owns personal space.
Common symptoms
- Half the gate stands during pre-boarding.
- Your group is called in a tone usually reserved for leftovers.
- The scanner rejects confidence.
