A baggage sizer is a frame or box used to check whether cabin baggage fits an airline’s dimensional limit. If a bag does not fit as required, the airline may apply its own policy, which can include checking the bag and charging a fee.

The sizer converts a flexible bag into a public performance. Passengers remove jackets, redistribute socks and kneel on their possessions while a rectangle silently explains that dignity was never included in the fare.
Does squeezing count?
That depends on the airline’s rules and how the bag must fit. Published dimensions commonly include wheels and handles. A soft bag may compress; a hard case may prefer litigation. Either way, check the operating carrier’s current allowance before arriving at the gate.
The sizer is related to both a personal item and carry-on baggage, but the allowed dimensions may differ. One rectangle can therefore reject your bag in two separate commercial languages.
The public trial
The hearing begins when the gate agent points at the frame without speaking. The passenger presents the bag, a boarding pass and several years of previously unchallenged travel. Prior good behaviour is inadmissible.
The prosecution calls the wheels. The defence argues that handles are not really part of the body. A coat is removed, underwear changes custody and the accused is pressed downward with both knees. Other passengers watch with the solemn interest normally reserved for a small public execution of somebody else’s schedule.
After the verdict
An acquitted bag returns to its owner without apology. A convicted bag is tagged, removed and sent toward the baggage carousel, where it may be reunited with the passenger after serving an unknown sentence.
The fee is collected immediately because justice delayed is acceptable, but revenue delayed is not. The passenger then boards carrying the loose belongings extracted during the defence: two jumpers, a laptop, six cables and the ashes of careful packing.
